Lili floral skirt

Lili floral skirt

I am quite taken with this floral tiered skirt from local label Lili.

While the words “floral tiered skirt” usually conjure up images of the mid-to-late 1980s, and I am usually thoroughly anti- anything 80s, for some reason this skirt doesn’t horrify me as it technically should.

In fact, I think it would look really nice for a winter night out with opaque black tights (Leona Edmiston, of course) and the black platform heels that are all the rage right now (such as the Wittner heels here. I own them and yes it was probably a stupid purchase).

The skirt retails for $139. Lili is stocked in Myer and selected boutiques around Australia.

Witchery Zip Flapper Skirt

Witchery Zip Flapper Skirt

I’ve become a big fan of Witchery in the last two or three years, although it’s been a gradual process.

When I was younger I thought Witchery went too heavy on the neutral tones and classic cuts, and was therefore “too boring”.

However as I’ve gotten older I’ve realised one doesn’t always have to be the centre of attention with one’s clothing and have actually grown to be quite fond of neutral tones and classic cuts.

Witchery’s stuff tends to be of a pretty good quality for the price, too, and the sales are always worth looking forward to.

Anyhow, the Autumn range is now available to browse on the website, and it generally gets the thumbs-up from me.

I’m already eyeing off a few must-have items, including the Zip Flapper Skirt, pictured here, which is kind of on the pricey side at $169.95. I think it will be a sell-out item because people I’ve already heard a few people mention this piece in particular.

I’m also considering the Space Dye Long Line Cardigan, which looks like a great cover-up for the in-between Autumn months, and the Ruffle Playsuit. Generally, I don’t think playsuits should be seen on anyone over the age of three, but this version looks like it could work.

Australian Fashion Week: say no to the mini!

After Monday’s brush with short short hemlines at Nicola Finetti I was beginning to despair for the coming spring/summer season.

Now I am no prude but personally I am not amongst those who want to get their gams out on public display constantly during the warmer months - give me a hemline at the mid-thigh and below any day.

Thankfully, there was a tendency towards hemlines from the mid-thigh to just above the knee at today’s ready-to-wear show, which showcases smaller and emerging designers.

I was especially impressed with the the pieces from Verduci-Smith. Many of them were loose, caftan- or Grecian-inspired dresses that would be perfect for a night out after a day at the beach in summer (such as the one above).

Australian Fashion Week: Zayt

Australian Fashion Week: Zayt

Another label with an impressive collection at RAFW was Zayt by Melbourne designer Therese Moran.

The fitted panel skirt - pictured here in the eyecatching “firecracker” colour - is very hot and reminds me of the infamous Herve Leger bandage dress (although that being said I am unlikely to ever be able to rock a bandage dress, unless my love of food miraculously disappears sometime in the not-too-distant future). The skirt also comes in blue-violet and black.

Zayt’s spring/summer collection, which featured some pretty dresses and casual separates, will be in stores in August.
