Peeptoe Shoes sale

Peeptoe Shoes sale

Peeptoe Shoes is having an online sale of 50% off selected shoe styles so if you’re looking for a new way to break an ankle, brace yourself.

Yes, as much as I adore Peeptoe Shoes, some styles in the range have truly defeated me - these shoes have a reputation for being very high and very easy to make a clown of yourself in.

But if you’re feeling confident, give them a go because some of the styles are really sexy. Personally, I need another pair of heels like I need a hole in the head, so I won’t be partaking in this sale. I mean, why do I keep buying shoes? Where exactly do I think I’m going to wear them? Around the house perhaps, seeing as I never really go anywhere.

Anyhow, my pick of the Peeptoe sale is the Miss Aruba shoes in black. You can’t go past a classic pump. They’re marked down to $110 from $220.

Purple soles

Purple soles

I’m always a sucker for a flashy trend so I was one of many who instantly fell in love with the trademark Christian Louboutin red sole on first sight.

Although Louboutin started painting the soles of his shoes red back in 1992, it wasn’t until earlier this decade that his designs really caught on in the entertainment world. And then, of course, the imitations started appearing a couple of years ago.

After all, it’s not like you can copyright the colour of a shoe sole so everyone from his fellow high-end designers (Miu Miu) to local label Peeptoe Shoes to cheap and nasty chain-store knock offs were all suddenly sporting red soles.

Apparently Louboutin himself was pretty pissed about the whole thing but there wasn’t a whole lot he could do.

Now Peeptoe Shoes has announced they are changing the colour of their soles to purple, as pictured here in the Miss Bloomingdale style. I guess it was only a matter of time until this happened and while I guess it’s great that they’re trying something different, I’m not sold on the whole idea.

For one thing, I would have chosen blue. And secondly, the Louboutin red sole was a moment in fashion history that arose accidentally (read the story here) and should be left at that.

The other point is that red just works for this whole sole-painting thing. Red is the colour of sex appeal and passion and seeing a glimpse of it as you walk away is what the Louboutin heel is all about. Purple is the colour of… what exactly? Royalty, I guess. And these days royalty isn’t exactly synonymous with sex appeal.

Black skinny jeans

Black skinny jeans

I know it’s too early to be thinking about clothing for the cooler months right now, but I am going to go out on a limb and make a prediction.

I predict that black skinny jeans are going to have a small resurgence come May or so. Call it a backlash from the doom and gloom of the global economy, but I have a feeling black is going to be bigger than ever this winter.

To avoid looking like a reject from a Metallica concert, black jeans really need to be skinny to work, and I think they look best dressed up rather than dressed down. You need light-coloured heels to lift the colour - something like the Peeptoe Shoes Miss Munroe pumps, which are oh-so-adorable but unfortunately rarely get an outing from my cupboard because they’re so damn difficult to walk in. (I’m making it my new year’s resolution to either break them in, or break my feet in.)

As a side note, another point to remember. Jeans of any colour should be neither too low or too high. A nice mid-rise cut never hurt anyone. I am so sick of seeing people’s buttcracks as they get around town in jeans way too low, or being forced to notice other cracks and crevices in jeans that are too high. Neither cut is flattering on anyone. In-between is fine.

Anyway, some black skinnies to consider, depending on your price range, include:

* Ksubi Super Skinny Zip jeans (as pictured here), $220 from MyCatwalk. Not sold on the zip detail, but loving the Christian Lacroix (I think?) heels.

* Lee Supatube, $129.95 from General Pants Co. Supatubes have the reputation of lasting forever.

* Calvin Klein Jeans Skinny, $130 from Just Jeans.

I also noticed a decent-looking pair of black skinnies in Sportsgirl the other day for $99.95.

Skull rings

Skull rings

When you think of skull rings, you tend to think of hardcore bikies feeding each other knuckle sandwiches at the local pub.

Not the look that all of us are going for, but you can give yourself a bit of an edge by slipping on a more fashionable version of the humble skull ring.

I am in love with the version pictured here, which sells for $49 at Peeptoe Shoes (you can buy it online here).

If skulls aren’t for you, another idea to make a statement is a panther ring. Of course, there is always the Cartier Panther Ring, which is a stunning ring set with diamonds and emeralds. Unfortunately it is out of most of our budgets. However, many shops do more affordable versions.

NB: To pull off this look, I recommend otherwise dressing yourself down. Be careful to keep other accessories to a minimum. I also recommend leaving your Comancheros’ leather jacket at home.

Sydney Peep Toe Shoes sale

Sydney Peep Toe Shoes sale

You know it’s not your lucky day when you find out that shoes you bought at full price just two weeks ago are likely to be slashed by up to 75%.

I literally only JUST bought the Miss Moulin Rouge booties in black suede (pictured left) from the Peep Toe Shoes boutique in Paddington at full tilt ($249 thank you very much!) and then earlier this week found out that there is going to be a massive warehouse sale for the brand this weekend.

The kicker is that I haven’t even worn the shoes yet so I really should have waited!

Anyhow, as mentioned above the Peep Toe Shoes warehouse sale is taking place this Saturday and Sunday at unit 16, 110 Bourke Road Alexandria. You’ll find savings of up to 75% on shoes, dresses, accessories and bags (plus an exclusive range of couture shoes starting from $70).

You should be pre-warned that Peep Toe Shoes are VERY high and can be difficult to walk in for novice high heel wearers. However they look incredibly sexy and that’s the most important thing.

I am in two minds about whether to go to this sale. Part of me is saying “no Caroline you need to start saving money!” and the other part is mumbling something about shutting the gate after the horse has bolted. Yes I do often experience internal banter over inane subjects like shoes and TV shows. Still waters run deep!

Love at first sight

Love at first sight

As embarrassing as it is to admit, I sometimes get crushes on things I see in shops and magazines (and no, I’m not talking about people. Things).

Sounds pretty stupid but really my behaviour in these circumstances has all the classic hallmarks of a romantic crush - feverish, obsessive thoughts about the object of my obsession, over protectiveness and even stalking (yes, I have stalked a pair of shoes before. Don’t ask). Basically, you can’t rest until you get your hands on it.

I hadn’t had such an obsession for a while until this weekend just gone when I was walking past a boutique near my home and saw the shoes pictured here.

My world stopped and I nearly died. Well as much as one can die from looking at a pair of shoes. If it had been a movie there would have been a cutaway scene of me and the shoes laying in a grassy field together holding hands. Oh yes, it was love at first sight (in a Catch-22, not a cheesy Kylie Minogue kind of way).

With their trademark red soles and burlesque design I instantly recognised my darlings as Peeptoe Shoes and rushed home to do some online stalking.

I discovered the style is called Miss Malorca and retails for $249. They style I love is the black/lace version, of course, but they also come in patent pink (a little too “Legally Blonde” for me).

Nevermind that these shoes will hardly get any use because I’ve given up on wearing heels to work. Nevermind that they probably clash with every piece of clothing in my wardrobe. Nevermind that they are way out of my budget at the moment. I must have them.

I know these shoes aren’t for everyone but that only makes me love them more.

(Peeptoe Shoes are available online and in selected boutiques. There are also two standalone boutiques in Paddington and Castle Hill)

Peep Toe Shoes

Peep Toe Shoes

I know I vowed late last year to stay off heels for a while but honestly, that was never going to last long.

The time has come to break my ankles again and my latest shoe obsession is Peep Toe Shoes.

This seriously hot footwear and accessories range is the baby of Sydney designer Nikki Hager, who is more than a little influenced by the art of burlesque.

In fact, you could easily see burlesque queen Dita Von Teese owning just about every shoe in the range.

I am particularly enamoured with the Miss Sally style, which is currently on sale through the website for $150. I’m also drooling over the Miss Burlesque style, as pictured here.

Best of all, these are quality heels and should last for years. They’re handmade from custom-dyed leathers as well as materials such as suede.

Peep Toe Shoes are stocked in over 70 boutiques around the country, and you can also shop online. If you live in Sydney, the flagship store is located on Glenmore Road, Paddington.
