BlueAnt T1 review

BlueAnt T1 review

BlueAnt has established quite a name for itself in the Bluetooth headset and speakerphone market, and the T1 is further proof of why.

The BlueAnt T1 offers significant improvements over its two predecessors, the V1 and the Q1. For starters, the T1 feels sturdier than the earlier models, without feeling overly bulky or clunky. To complement the rugged design, you also get two silicone covers in the box, which helps protect the unit from elemental and accidental damage.

Then there is the improved feature set. As well as the voice controls of the earlier BlueAnt headsets, there is also A2DP streaming and caller name announcing. BlueAnt has also improved the wind noise cancellation technology, which makes for much clearer calls.

The BlueAnt T1 is available now for $99.99.

Plantronics Discovery 975 review

Plantronics Discovery 975 review

If you’re looking for a top-of-the-range Bluetooth headset and you have the money to spend, the Plantronics Discovery 975 will appeal.

With a price tag pushing the $200 mark, you’d expect the Plantronics Discovery 975 to perform well and look great - and it doesn’t disappoint. The manufacturer has stepped away from the traditional “ear loop” design, instead offering a long, slender, clip-like device, finished in real black leather. The rest of the headset is made of a fairly lightweight plastic, which thankfully doesn’t look cheap, but makes the 975 comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time.

Of course, looks don’t count for much if a Bluetooth headset can’t provide you with decent audio quality. And once again, Plantronics perfoms solidly with the Discovery 975. Thanks to the 20-band equaliser and the proprietary digital signal processing feature, audio is clear and crisp, delivering very little static.

Also worth mentioning is the multipoint Bluetooth connectivity, meaning the headset can connect to two devices simultaneously; and the included charging case.

The Plantronics Discovery 975 Bluetooth headset is available in Australia now with a recommended retail price of $179.95.

Motorola H790 review

Motorola H790 review

The new Motorola H790 is a basic Bluetooth headset for your mobile phone that offers exceptional audio performance at an affordable price point.

The feature set of the Motorola H790 won’t blow you away, especially when compared with some of the more expensive Bluetooth headsets on the market. Basically, it can be used to make and receive hands-free calls from your phone - and that’s it.

While there are no added extras such as voice control, what the H790 does, it does well. It features Motorola’s own Crystal Talk technology and this ensures the device offers absolutely exceptional audio performance. Many Bluetooth headsets on the market still fall short in this department, which is disappointing.

Another plus is the slim and light form factor, which allows it to sit comfortably on the ear for long periods of time. In fact, Motorola claims the H790 is its slimmest dual-microphone headset to date.

The Motorola H790 Bluetooth headset is available in Australia now with a recommended retail price of $99.95.

Nokia BH-905 review

Nokia BH-905 review

The new Nokia BH-905 is an exceptional stereo Bluetooth headset - and given the $400 price tag, it would want to be.

Not many of us are in the market for a stereo Bluetooth headset in this price range, but if you are, then the Nokia BH-905 should definitely be on your shortlist. Sound and call quality is much better than most of its Bluetooth brethren - in fact, it’s pretty much comparable to many wired headphones in this price bracket. This is thanks largely to the inclusion of multi-microphone active noise cancelling

The Nokia BH-905’s design also sets it apart from many other stereo Bluetooth headsets. It’s been graced with a comfortable fit, although the headset is on the heavy side, so isn’t really meant to be used for exercise. You should use it mostly at home (and at $399.95 you wouldn’t want to be taking it to the gym anyway).

The controls are placed handily on the right side of the headset, including the call button, play/pause, track controls, volume and more. If you want to use the BH-905 with a device that doesn’t have Bluetooth, you can, thanks to the inclusion of a 3.5mm jack and cable plus adaptors for several other connections.
