Modern Family: Celebrating Valentine’s Day with the kids
Kids are normally left out of the equation when it comes to planning some romantic time out, so why not put a fresh spin on this day of love by packing a picnic and making it a family affair?
· It’s all about location, location, location. Choose a pretty picnic spot that is easily accessed, close to conveniences like toilets and has plenty of room for the kids to run around and enjoy themselves.
· Make sure you pack all the essentials – plates, cutlery, glasses, napkins, serving utensils, an esky, ice and the like. There’s nothing worse than being settled into the perfect picnic spot and realising you forgot to bring a corkscrew for the wine.
· Comfort is key. Bring picnic blankets, cushions, beanbags or fold out chairs so you and the family can lounge around happily as well as being prepared if one of the kids falls asleep early.
· Plan ahead. Bring sunscreen and repellent to ensure burn and bite-free fun and warmer clothes for later on if the weather cools down.
· Make it fun for the kids. Bring a frisbee, ball games, toys, books or board games to ensure they are happy and entertained.
· Don’t forget an element of romance. Bring some music, light some candles and share some champagne and strawberries with your loved one. Don’t forget – even with the family – it is Valentine’s Day!
