iPhone 3G S cometh

iPhone 3G S cometh

I have a surprising and disturbing announcement to make: I think I want an iPhone.

Well, this may not be that disturbing or surprising to the 95% of the Australian population who either have an iPhone or are thinking about getting an iPhone 3G S when it arrives in Australia on June 26. But I have always offered great resistance to anything and everything iPhone-related. I nearly had a meltdown when this silly little gadget was released in Australia last year. The thought of people sleeping out the front of a store in the middle of winter for a mobile phone still makes me giggle.

I also consider myself to be one of the last people on earth who doesn’t own some sort of gadget that makes them contactable 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Well, I guess strictly my mobile phone does, but I leave that on silent for long periods of time on the weekends so it’s like it’s not really there. When you have a phone that is also delivering your emails straight to you, it’s difficult to dodge other people. I don’t want to be contactable all the time. I am also not arrogant enough to think I need to be contactable by other people at all hours of the night and day. The world will continue to turn if I can’t access my emails for a couple of days.

But I have to say, this iPhone 3G S business is really appealing to me. I think I want one. I’m not sure if I am a bit slow and it takes longer for guerilla marketing to penetrate my brain or if I’m simply two years behind everyone else, but I think I’m finally convinced.

* It’s fast.
* It’s gorgeous.
* It has GPS, which is always helpful if you have no sense of direction.

Plus, the Optus iPhone 3G S pricing looks really affordable. Now, to work out if I can disable the phone’s email function…?
