The S50 is the next step up from the Navman S30, offering some more features and a recommended retail price $100 more than the S30.
Navman devices as a whole are generally considered to be the leaders in the GPS/satellite navigation market, and while the S50 is a solid performer, it’s up to you to decide if the handful of extra features justify the recommended retail price of $499.
The two main features that the S50 has over the S30 include a wider screen and Bluetooth connectivity. Both these features are useful but not necessary - it you want just a basic unit that will get you from A to B, then the S30 will suit just fine.
Another inclusion is NavPix, which lets you navigate geotagged images that you’ve downloaded off a PC. This feature is quite cool but not really necessary.
In terms of GPS performace, the Navman S50 does well. However we’re not sure that it really has that much more to offer over the S30 - if you want a fully-featured GPS unit, you might be better off looking further up the Navman range.

Am I the only one who is sick of the upcoming “Sex and the City” movie already?
The stupid thing hasn’t even come out yet and already it’s hitting me in the face at every turn - in magazines, on TV and on my beloved gossip websites.
Being the consumers’ paradise that it is, my local Westfield has also succumbed to “Sex fever” (that’s an awesome term! I’m copyrighting it!) and is offering two free tickets to the opening screening with gift card purchases of $100 or more, including champagne and canapes on arrival then a screening of the movie.
My inital thought was, keep the champagne and canapes, lose the movie and I might show up.
Apart from watching the occasional re-run on Foxtel while waiting for “Law & Order” to start, my care factor about Carrie and her gang of rabid “single and sassy” women has always been pretty much close to zero but now with the “Sex and the City” publicity machine shifting into high gear I’m seriously moving into annoyance territory.
As a city-dwelling single woman myself, I often wonder if people think we’re all as sassy and exciting as the “Sex and the City” floosies. Personally, I’ve never met anyone who has that lifestyle of cocktails and numerous men hanging around. Even if I did I would most likely be insanely jealous and therefore hate them.
But what about the groundbreaking fashion, I hear you say? Granted, there were some pretty exciting fashion moments in the TV series, but aren’t we over the whole dressing like a cashed-up bag lady thing? Isn’t it all a bit 1999?
And from the stills I’ve seen of the movie, it looks like someone’s trying too hard to push the fashion envelope. Newsflash: fashion moments are usually better when they aren’t forced.
A case in point:
What is this? Since when did it become acceptable to get married with a dead bird stuck to your head?
That has to be the least radiant bride I have ever seen.

The Creative TravelSound i50 is a fairly unique product - it’s one of the only docking stations on the market made especially for the iPod shuffle.
Docking stations for all other iPods including the nano abound, but when it comes to connecting the shuffle to a device with a docking station, you need to resort to a 3.5mm cable.
The Creative TravelSound i50’s strong point is its portability: it’s just over 1cm thick and measures in at around 4.5cm wide by 10cm long. It’s also lightweight so you can carry it around in your bag easily.
When it comes to the speakers and sound issue, don’t expect to be blown away. Not only is this unit tiny but it’s also very affordable - usually both of these factors are good signs that the sound won’t be anything special. The sound particularly lacks in the bass and distortion is frequently apparent.
However if you want an inexpensive portable speaker dock for your iPod shuffle, the Creative TravelSound i50 is one of the only products available that fits the bill.

There’s nothing quite like a good factory outlet - the satisfaction of knowing you nabbed a brand-name product at way below the recommended retail price.
Earlier this week I discovered that Sydney boasts two factory outlets for small appliances from top brands such as Breville, Kambrook and Philips and I plan to be all over them like a cheap suit in the very near future. (Melbourne also has two outlets.)
These outlets offer savings of between 30% and 70% off the recommended retail prices of products such as kettles, toasters, shavers, coffee machines and more (coffee machines are priced from $29!).
Also on offer are products from Ronson - juicers, sandwiches, rice cookers and more - and Goldair, which makes heating and cooling appliances.
There is even a selection of homewares and glassware and all electrical goods come with a 12-month warranty.
The Sydney outlets can be found at 180 Redfern Street, Redfern and 46 Wattle Street, Ultimo. In Melbourne head to 427 Smith Street, Fitzroy and 261 Huntingdale Road, Huntingdale. All outlets are open Monday to Saturday each week.

A smartphone offers capabilities and functions beyond those of a standard mobile phone.
There is no actual list of agreed features for what constitutes a smartphone and you can’t help but feel that HTC has taken a slight advantage of this lack of a strict definition by labelling the P3470 a “smartphone”.
For when it comes down to it, the P3470 really isn’t that comprehensively featured when compared with the other smartphones in the HTC range. For example, the P3470 is the only HTC handset that is 2G rather than 3G. Of course, that’s what you have to expect when the price tag is significantly less (in some cases, half).
Still, the HTC P3470 is a decent device that functions as both a mobile phone and a GPS navigation unit (it comes with on-board navigation software). It also comes with Mobile Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Internet Explorer. There’s also a 2-megapixel camera.
Last but not least, the HTC P3470 is an attractive smartphone, which is an important consideration for some. It comes in glossy black with rounded edges, giving it a sleek modern look.
